The Toronto Area Archivists' Group (TAAG) is pleased to present a workshop, December 14th & 15th, 2012.

'Housing Collections', presented by Dee Psaila, will be held twice with a maximum registration of 15 each day.

'Are you troubled by how much custom containers cost for housing your archival collection and would you love to learn to make you own?
Now is the opportunity to learn how!

During our upcoming one day session, you will learn how to make spacers, four flaps, phase boxes, clamshell boxes, and two-part boxes, all assembled in a handy kit that you can take away with you and apply in your own archives.

Not only is this a great learning experience, it is an excellent opportunity to help better your collection and maximize you collection storage space.

As this is a hands-on activity, participants are asked to BRING THEIR OWN HEAVY DUTY RETRACTABLE BLADE, such as an Olfa, with snap off blades- no scalpels, please. Also PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN pencil, bone folder, and a ruler- at least 18" long.'

About Dee Psaila: The Senior Conservator at the Archives of Ontario, Dee is very familiar with collections storage issues, as she worked to move the AO's collection to their new facility at York University in 2009. She also is a faculty member at Ryerson's Photographic Preservation and Collections Management Master programme, teaching preservation and housing. She has also worked  with the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture's Saving Our African American Treasures project. This African American Treasures programme circulates in different cities around the country providing hands-on preservation advice, in which Dee developed a customised box programme for public participants. Dee also wrote the print-on-demand title Design and Materials for Photographic Housing, which is available for purchase upon request. 

Both days will be hosted at Trinity College, 6 Hoskin Avenue, Toronto, from 10am until 4pm. Lunch can be purchased nearby at Hart House, or at Trinity.

Registration is $90 for non-AAO members, and $70 for AAO members.
