UNLOCKING THE RYLANDS 
 
The Special Collections of the John Rylands University Library of 
Manchester are an internationally-renowned scholarly resource. They 
span millennia, originate from many cultures, and are written, drawn 
and printed on materials which range from papyrus to plastic. For the 
first time in the Library's history a comprehensive account of its 
rare books, manuscripts and archives has been compiled. The Guide to 
Special Collections, is now accessible to readers throughout the world 
via the Web at:

It will also be published in hard-copy format from the end of 
February 1999. 
 
In addition, from 25 February 1999, the catalogues of the Library's 
pre-eminent book collections will be available in electronic form
