I know very little about your subject, but I am interested in it. Could  
you send me some quotes on "instrumental analysis", as you said you  
could?   
 
As far as I know, the Greek "heuristics" is a system of solving  
problems. It is somehow connected to the ancient sense of the term  
"dialectics", Socrates building arguments and counter-arguments to  
plead his innocence. If this is the case, it has also something to do with  
rhetorics.
