Herman Daly has only one arm and used to begin most of his invited  
lectures by telling about how Harry Truman wanted a one-armed  
economist who would not say "on the other hand." Herman then would  
jokingly declare himself to be Harry Truman's ideal economist, for  
obvious reasons.
