Subject: SAA Glossary of Archival and Records Terminology

I'm happy to announce that the first draft of the new Glossary of
Archival and Records Terminology is now available on the SAA web
site <URL:http://www.archivists.org/glossary/>. The site has a
searchable interface and a full-text version in PDF. The site is
free to members and non-members.

This draft is being made available to allow all archivists to make
comments on the definitions, notes, and citations for the terms.
After more than twenty years' work as an archivists, I know a fair
amount, but I certainly don't know everything. I will be
particularly interested in getting input from specialists in the
field.

I hope to have many face-to-face conversations with people about the
glossary at the annual meeting in Boston next week.

The glossary was prepared with the assistance of Mark Greene, Rob
Spindler, and Diane Vogt-O'Connor, to whom I owe a profound debt of
gratitude. It was made possible by a grant from the NHPRC Archival
Research Fellows and with support of the Arizona State Library,
Archives and Public Records. I hope that many of you will respond
with comments,
