Regional Municipality of Waterloo
Temporary Full-Time - 20 weeks
Archives Assistant - Internship
This is a limited contract for 20 weeks made possible through the Young
Canada Works Program and the Canadian Council of Archives.  Intended start
date is September 7th, 2004 but is flexible.

Description
To enable the Regional Muncipality of Waterloo to initiate a more effective
and active archives program to both internal and external clients.  The
Archives Assistant will begin preliminary appraisal and description of
records currently held in the archives.  The initial task will be to
compare the accuracy of the current County of Waterloo fonds finding aid
against the actual records in the collection.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required
Applicants should have recently completed or be in the process of
completing an Undergraduate Degree in History, a Masters in Information
Studies and or Library Science with an archival concentration. Excellent
oral and written communication skills ability to work independently
following established procedures.  Has a foundational grasp of archival
theories and procedures, including appraisal and acquisition, arrangement
and description/finding aid creation using RAD (Rules for Archival
Description), preservation and access.  General knowledge of records
management theories and procedures including classification, retention, and
all steps in the records lifecycle.  To be eligible, intern candidates must
not have previously participated in or been paid under any other internship
program that is funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment
Strategy.  Interns must also be 30 years old or less at the point of
hiring.

Salary
$15/hour
