Subject: [Arcan-l] New Outreach Tool: Preserving Communities: A Guide
to Archiving for Community Organizations
To: <[log in to unmask]>, <[log in to unmask]>
Cc: Braden Cannon <[log in to unmask]>
Halifax Regional Municipality Archives is pleased to provide access to this
useful guide created by Braden Cannon, as part of his Masters of Library and
Information Studies at Dalhousie University, under the supervision of Susan
McClure, HRM's Municipal Archivist and Kathryn Harvey, formerly of Dalhousie
University Archives and Special Collections.
Braden recognized that grassroots community organizations are not adequately
represented in Canadian archives, and intends the guide to offer practical
advice to community groups on caring for their historical records either
in-house or through donating to an established archives. Braden also hopes
to instil a sense of importance in the long-term preservation of the vital
and extensive work being done by community organizations across Canada.
Find and share the Guide at:

ACA conference participants may have caught Braden's engaging talk at the
Student Session, and CNSA members may recall Braden's participation in our
Education and Preservation Committees. Braden is currently an archivist at
the Provincial Archives of Alberta through the University of Calgary
Archives. He invites any comments or questions about the Guide via the
email cc'd above.
