The first International Conference on the History of Records and
Archives (I-CHORA) will be held at the Faculty of Information Studies
at University of Toronto in Canada on October 2-4, 2003.  An
international selection of over forty scholars and practising
professionals have been invited to present papers and discuss recent
works, theoretical perspectives, needs and opportunities for research
in the area of the history of records, record-keeping, and archives.
Session topics have been arranged into three categories:

1. The nature of records and documents, including historical and
social aspects of specific types of records and documents, both
public and private, organisational and personal.

2. The nature of record-keeping, including historical and social
aspects of organisational and personal record-keeping practices,
ecologies, and technologies.

3. Sources, methods, theories, and philosophies for research in the
nature of records and record-keeping.

participants, special rates for Toronto-area accommodation, online
registration, and more.

Take advantage of our special early registration rate of $200
(Canadian) for full admittance to the 3-day conference. The early
registration rate expires on August 15, 2003. The registration fee
covers access to all sessions, a conference booklet containing papers
prepared by each of the presenters, and some meals (TBA).  Day
registration and special student rates are also available.

Registration can be done electronically.  Please visit our
registration page on the I-CHORA website for information on
registering for the conference.

A modest sum of support is also available to students and presenters
who are in need of funding to attend the conference. There are five
bursaries in total. To apply, please send a message to the conference
e-mail account at [log in to unmask] stating who you are and the
reasons why you need support. Successful applicants will be informed
of bursary amounts by September 1, 2003.
