The ACA 2011 Conference is only four weeks away!

In the fourth installment of the ACA 2011 Conference Host Committee's  
series of
social activity spotlights, we look at Wednesday night's Opening Reception.


This year’s opening reception will be held in Strachan Hall at Trinity  
College.  Designed by George and Moorehouse in the Collegiate Gothic  
style, Strachan Hall has been the centre of College life since it was  
completed in 1941, an addition to the original 1925 building that  
faces Hoskin Avenue.  The Hall is 40 by 90 feet, with a soaring  
trussed roof of British Columbia cedar and paneled oak walls.   
Heraldic designs by A. Scott Carter, a massive 17th century Flemish  
tapestry and formal portraits by Robert Harris, E. Wyly Grier, Lilias  
Torrance Newton, G.T. Berthon and Charles Comfort, embellish the room.
Modern stained glass windows created by Ellen Simon and Yvonne  
Williams provide muted light.  Generations of gowned Trinity students,  
following the traditions of Oxford and Cambridge, have attended weekly  
High Tables with faculty, Dons and Fellows, a tradition that continues  
to the present day.

We invite you to join colleagues and friends for an early evening  
gathering featuring hot and cold food stations beneath the  
disapproving glare of John Strachan, founder of the College, political  
mediator and Bishop of Toronto.  A haven of peace, quiet and tradition  
within the bustling city, Strachan Hall provides the perfect ambience  
to kick off our annual conference.

The event is open to all registered delegates but attendees must  
register to be included in the count for food and beverages.

Trinity College is a pleasant walk through Queen’s Park from the Delta  
Chelsea Hotel, and is close to the Museum subway stop. West-bound  
buses from the Wellesley subway station stop just outside the door.
