Spots are still available in each of the following four pre-conference
workshops at the upcoming ACA/AAO Conference. Workshop dates are May 31st
and June 1st:

1. Encoded Archival Description - As the SAA's promotional literature
states, this workshop will enable participants to apply the basic elements
of EAD to finding aids in their own institution. Space is filling fast so
act now!

2. Preservation Management in Archives - In the humble opinion of this
roving archivist, this workshop will provide you with the basic tools to
implement the CCA's sound framework of "assess, plan and act". Who knows,
a small investment in this workshop could improve your chances for a future
CCA Preservation Management grant!

3. The Archival and Monetary Appraisal of Audio-Visual Records - This
workshop strives to relieve the anxiety that archivists experience in
assessing the archival and monetary value of potential audio-visual
acquisitions. If you manage A/V records, this is not to be missed!

4. Carrying the Message: From Wampum Belts to Digital Imaging - This
symposium represents an important outreach initiative by the archival
community to the Aboriginal community. Unfortunately, too few archival
programs exist within Aboriginal communities in Canada. It is hoped that
momentum from this symposium will help to address this deficiency. It is
being held at Odrehekta (across from Chiefswood) near Six Nations of the
Grand River.

For complete descriptions of these workshops and registration information,
visit the ACA's website at http://www.archives.ca/aca. I look forward to
seeing you there!
