Dear Colleagues - posting on behalf of a non-subscriber

****please excuse cross-postings***

Simon Fraser University Archives and Records Management Department invites applications for an Information and Privacy Officer. Reporting to the University Archivist and Coordinator of Information and Privacy and based at the Burnaby campus, this full-time continuing position will assist in coordinating and facilitating privacy and access activities, which enable university departments, staff, and faculty to fulfill their legal obligations under British Columbia's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Working in tandem with an incumbent Information and Privacy Officer, the successful candidate will jointly oversee privacy promotion and protection activities; the processing of access to information requests; requests for review and privacy complaints made to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner; privacy and access advisory services, education, and training; and information management policy analysis and development. The successful candidate will work as a collaborative member of a team of information management professionals and will be expected to participate in the overall operations of the Archives and Records Management Department.

This position will appeal to an individual interested in the promotion of a culture of openness, transparency, and administrative fairness that is in balance with an informed respect for the privacy rights of members of the university community and the individuals with whom the university interacts. It will be attractive to those who appreciate an integrated approach to the management of information and records, including an interest in archives administration, records management, and digital access and preservation activities.

SETTING:

Ranked by respected national surveys as one of Canada’s top three comprehensive universities for the past 20 years, Simon Fraser University has also been named one of British Columbia’s Top Employers for 2015, as well as one of Canada’s Top 100 employers, and one of Canada's top family-friendly employers. SFU offers more than 100 undergraduate major and joint major programs and more than 45 graduate offerings, spanning many disciplines in eight faculties, and has an international reputation for its innovative interdisciplinary and professional programs. The main campus is in Burnaby, with satellite campuses in downtown Vancouver and Surrey.

SFU Archives and Records Management is responsible for the administration of three corporate programs, including archives, records management, and freedom of information and protection of privacy. These different, but integrated program areas are tied together by the concept of the record as a vital institutional asset that adds value to the university when managed effectively, but exposes the university to increased costs, risks, and liabilities when managed poorly.

Applicants are invited to visit the Archives and Records Management Department website for more information about the department and its programs.
