FIS Job Shadowing Program
Sponsored by the FIS Alumni Association and the
FISSC Professional Development Committee

For several years now information professionals in Southern
Ontario have responded enthusiastically to our request for mentors
for our Shadowing Program. This annual event takes FIS students into
libraries, information centres and archives for a half-day or a full
day to observe the life of an information professional at work.
Once again, we invite you to participate, to set aside a few hours to
show one (or more) students the ropes. You can provide students with
valuable insight into professional practice by having them observe
your workplace, by explaining how your day is organized, by outlining
your responsibilities and by generally giving them a feel for life on
the job.

This is how it works! You can either complete the form below and
return it to myself ([log in to unmask]), send it by mail to the
address below or fill out an electronic form on the Alumni
Association's home page on the FIS website
(http://www.fis.utoronto.ca/people/fisaa/fisaa8.htm). In early
February we will transfer all the information to signup sheets in the
main office. The students will sign up for a visit to a site that
matches their career interests. It will be the responsibility of the
students to then contact the host of their choice. Together, the
student and host will arrange the visit at a mutually convenient
time. Hosts from other cities, for example, may find that their
student may not be free to visit until the summer.

We welcome any questions you may have about the Job Shadowing Program.
Please email Dave Hook ([log in to unmask]) or Tracey Palmer
([log in to unmask]) for more information.
