The ACA 2011 Conference is just over a month away!

In this, the third of the ACA 2011 Conference Host Committee's series of
social activity spotlights, we focus on two tours we are offering for  
the night of Thursday, June 2nd.


Walking tour of Kensington Market

ACA Conference delegates are invited to “A SENSE OF SPADINA”, a  
walking tour of historic Jewish Toronto. Browse through Kensington  
Market and the synagogues, bakeries, theatres and halls that became  
home to the early Eastern-European immigrants who formed this vibrant  
community a century ago.  An important part of Toronto’s cultural and  
economic history, this area still retains much significant evidence of  
its Jewish past, but is now home to more recently- arrived ethnic  
communities.  A program of the Ontario Jewish Archives, the 90-minute  
tour is led by experienced guides. Delegates asked to meet at 10 St.  
Andrew Street <www.theminsk.com>  (one block from Spadina and Dundas)  
at 6:00 PM, on Thursday, June 2nd.

Free for delegates!  Register early!  Maximum of 60 participants.

Only 15 minutes walk from the conference hotel.  Map and directions supplied.

Great cheap post-tour dinners at local Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants!

Walking tour of The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives

ACA Conference delegates are invited to join a walking tour of The
Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA). The CLGA is housed in the
historic Jared Sessions Building at 34 Isabella Street. Renovated in 2009, and
home to the archives since September of that year, the building also  
boasts a vibrant gallery space and the James Fraser Library.

June gallery exhibits include: an exhibit of The National Portrait  
Collection featuring newly commissioned portraits of 2011 inductees:  
Sky Gilbert, Jearld Moldenhauer and Nancy Nicol, all of whom are being  
honoured for their contribution to to LGBTQ communities in Canada. In  
the 3rd floor meeting room, you will find an exhibit of early Pride  
celebrations in Toronto before 1981 featuring posters, buttons,  
photographs and documents from the CLGA's collection.

This tour can accommodate a maximum of 25 people so remember to sign  
up early at the Host committee table! We will meet in the Delta  
Chelsea lobby at 5:30 pm, and leave the hotel at 5:45 (The CLGA is a  
20 minute walk from the hotel).
