Subject: Learning Skills Services October Workshops and Services

Now that October is here, we hope you are enjoying the fall colours and cooler weather. We would like to share with you our Learning Skills October Workshop Calendar<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/workshops/>, accessible via the online events calendar<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/organizer/learning-skills/> and as a downloadable pdf<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/wp-content/uploads/sites/36/2021/09/October-2021.pdf>. Please note that LSS workshops and services continue to be offered remotely for the time being, unless otherwise indicated. This month features a variety of topics, from Time Management, Reading & Notetaking and Critical thinking to Presentation Skills, Mastering Group Work and Exam Prep. Workshop registration information can be found in the Workshops<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/workshops/> section on our LSS website<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/>. Please note that students may attain their Passport to Success<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/workshops/passport-to-success/> after attending 8 or more Learning Skills Workshops.

We would also like to draw your attention to the following services available to all students:

  * The Learning Commons Virtual Welcome Desk online chat where students may connect with a Learning Skills Peer, Monday to Friday from 1:30-3:30 pm, to get help on how to navigate the many resources available within the Learning Commons. Students can log on to the chat when it’s open through either the Learning Commons<http://learningcommons.yorku.ca/> or Learning Skills <https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/> websites.

  * Peer Academic Coaching<https://www.yorku.ca/scld/learning-skills/appointment/>, where students may make an appointment to meet individually with a Learning Skills Peer to discuss learning skills topics such as managing their time, effective study strategies, academic reading skills, and more.

Finally, kudos to our colleagues at LA&PS on recently launching their new LA&PS’ Student Numeracy Assistance Centre at Keele (SNACK<https://www.yorku.ca/laps/snack/>). This new service provides support to students in LA&PS courses that involve math, stats and Excel.

Please share this information widely with students, staff, faculty and colleagues in your areas and networks. Thank you.

All the best,

Cathy Boyd-Withers and Nicole Joron
