We have co-evolved alongside our allies in nature; plants, herbs, animals, mushrooms, throughout our existence. Mushrooms are agreed to be one of the oldest recorded living organisms on this planet. After being around for so long, there are a few things we could learn from their wisdom.

Humans are now consciously evolving at an exponential rate. But what often happens during evolutions or transformations, are series of breakdowns, breakthroughs and leaving old ways behind. Erin shares her experiences with loss and grief, exploration of unconventional ways of living, and healing through community and the teachings of fungi. She looks into what challenging normative systems and learning from and modelling “modern life” after intentional communities, and the fungal queendom could be like. And our opportunity through radical vulnerability and authenticity to achieve higher service to ourselves and others.

Indigenous Circle Movie Night – Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 5:00pm-6:30pm

Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2021

Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm

Registration Link: https://tinyurl.com/Jordan231121

CCSC presents Jordan River Anderson: The Messenger an Indigenous themed movie that reveals the inequitable access to health care in Canada.

Please join us to de-stress from your regular challenging daily activities to learn about and appreciate diverse cultures.

Movie Synopsis:

When five-year-old Jordan River Anderson died with a rare muscle disorder known as Carey-Fineman-Ziter syndrome in 2005, he had spent all of his young life in hospital. The Federal and Manitoban governments argued for years over who was responsible for his home-care costs.

He was never able to talk or walk and was kept on a ventilator until he died at Winnipeg Children's Hospital, almost 1,000 km away from his family's home in Norway House First Nation.

In an exposé of blatant governmental disregard, award-winning Indigenous filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin documents the long struggle of Indigenous activists demanding the government recognize and enforce "Jordan's Principle" — the promise that no First Nations children would experience inequitable access to government-funded health, social, and educational services again.

For those of you who are hearing about SCHW for the first time, we are a department in the Division of Students that supports the mental health and well-being of students at York University. As a new academic year begins, we wanted to take a moment to let you know about us and the FREE services and supports that are available to you this year.

Peer-led Workshops
Our team of peer health educators offer workshops on a variety of well-being topics including Mental Health 101, Nutrition Basics, Sleep for Better Grades, Healthier Coping Strategies, Self-Care, and much more. Individual Counselling
SCHW offers same-day and appointment-based counselling in a safe and non-judgemental space. Simply call our reception line at (416)-736-5297<https://counselling.students.yorku.ca/individual-counselling> to connect with a counsellor for support. During your session, your counsellor will develop a goal with you, and help you move closer towards personal success. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us, our services are confidential and no problem is too small. We are here for you!

Group Support
Some students may prefer to meet with peers for encouragement and support rather than or in addition to meeting with a counsellor one-to-one. If group support is something that interests you, you’re in luck! SCHW will be offering the following groups (all of which are facilitated or co-facilitated by counsellors) during 2021-2022:
