The Career Centre is pleased to provide you with a PDF of the calendar of
activities for the month of October 2012. Alternatively, you may refer to
our online calendar.
This month is all about further education. Most people think of job
search support when they think of the services the Career Centre provides,
but many students come to us for support in making strategic further
education decisions. To help support students in preparing for further
studies, the Career Centre has launched the Further Education Workshop
Series ? five highly targeted, 1-hour workshops designed to address the
unique issues and concerns that students might have about their
application at each stage of the process. After attending all five
workshops, students will be well on their way to developing a strong,
persuasive application package for the next step of their education.
ˇ Selecting a Post Graduate Program
ˇ Organizing Your Post-Graduate Application
ˇ Understanding the Personal Statement
ˇ Getting Started on Your Personal Statement
ˇ Writing a CV or Resumé for Your Post Graduate Application
Post Graduate Application Support sessions complement these workshops by
providing feedback on application documents, and/or advice about the
application process.
In addition to our Further Education workshop series and one-on-one
supports, this month the Career Centre will be offering two special panel
discussions with alumni who have gone on to further studies:
ˇ Career Conversations: Alumni Perspectives on Further Education
Options in Health Care will take place on Tuesday, October 16th from
2:00-4:00pm in the Stong Master?s Dining Hall; and
ˇ Career Conversations: Alumni Perspectives on Further Education
Options for Liberal Arts Students will take place on Wednesday, October 17
th from 3:30 ? 5:30pm in the Harry Crowe Room.
These programs and services are geared toward our annual Graduate and
Professional Studies Expo (GPSE) which will take place on Thursday,
October 25th in Founders Assembly Hall and Winters Dining Hall. During
GPSE educational recruiters from over 100 business and law schools,
teacher's colleges, graduate studies programs, professional schools and
community colleges will be on campus to talk to students about their
programs and application processes through a variety of exhibits, panels
and breakout sessions.
This month, in addition to our further education supports, students
interested in exploring careers within a particular field and/or wanting
to connect with recruiters in a specific industry can participate in two
panel discussions:
ˇ Industry Insights: Strategies for Getting Hired in the Insurance
Sector will be taking place on Thursday, October 11th from 11:30am ?
1:30pm in 103 McLaughlin College.
ˇ Career Conversations: Discovering Careers in Non-profit,
Charitable, Non-Governmental and Social Justice Organizations will take
place on Monday, October 22nd from 2:30 ? 4:30pm in Founders Assembly Hall
Feel free to share this information broadly with students, new graduates
and colleagues. If you would like to have a contact added or you would
like to be removed from this distribution list, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Julie Rahmer
