Dr. Arjun Sengupta
UN Independent Expert on the Right to Development

Dr. Arjun Sengupta is the UN Independent Expert on the Right to
Development for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.   He is
also a professor of International Economic Organization and Jawaharlal
Nehru University, a former Ambassador of India to the European Union and a
former special advisor to the Managing Director of the International
Monetary Fund.    He brings a wealth of experience to debates around the
right to development, combining concerns about human rights and economics
with a vast experience of practical problems faced by developing
countries.  He will speak about the right to development and reform of the
international financial institutions, to be followed by an open discussion
period.

The resolution adopted by the UN Commission on Human Rights with support
of 48 members (which Canada abstained on, along with Korea and UK; Japan
and US voted against) can be found at :
