Call for applicants for the Paul Alexander Memorial Fellowship
---------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this award is to provide an international public
health opportunity in a developing country for a young person of
promise who would benefit from direct experience in making a career
choice. The award is a travel fellowship, which is usually used to
support work with an MSH international public health project for
at least two months. Awards are sometimes given to individuals who
have developed independent plans.

Eligible applicants must have received a graduate degree within
the past two years, or be expecting to receive a graduate degree
within two years after the award travel.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is December 30.

Regional Congress on Health Sciences Information
Crossroads of Information Technology: The Future Link

The Pan American Health Organization through BRIEME and the
Ministry of Health through FIOCRUZ will host this year’s
congress, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, October 16-18,1996.

The main objective of the congress is to update information
professionals and health specialists in the latest developments
in information technology and its application to health sciences
and the ways in which they can contribute to improve their working
environment and better their performance and capabilities.

The congress will include a key note address,conferences, round
tables, panels, poster sessions and specialized courses.

The deadline for early registration is August 30,1996.

World Hunger Education Service Releases Spring 1996 edition
of Hunger Notes

The latest edition of WHES’Hunger Notes, entitled "Nutrition Action
to Fight Hunger and Save Lives: How are we doing? How can we do
better?" is currently available. Topics covered include:
malnutrition and child mortality; nutrition and the environment of
indigenous peoples; UNICEF’s nutrition strategy, and targeted
interventions. Single copies of Hunger Notes cost $5.00. Bulk

Third Annual Canadian Conference on International Health
Call for Volunteers to Review Abstracts
---------------------------------------------------------
The Third Canadian Conference on International Health, to be held
in Ottawa, Canada, from November 10-13, 1996, is looking for
qualified individuals to assist in the abstract review process for
the conference. Each reviewer will be asked to read and evaluate,
in accordance with identified criteria, the brief one-page
abstracts which will be submitted for consideration as
presentations at the conference. Abstracts are submitted in the
format stipulated in the conference’s Call for Abstracts. The
group of reviewers will meet either in person or by teleconference
to finalize the list of accepted and rejected abstracts and assign
them into groupings by subject. The qualifications for reviewers
include: academic preparation at the graduate level in the health
and/or development field, experience in international health
programs, and preferred experience with an abstract review process.

Health Communities... By Design Showcase, Conference and Festival
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Healthy Communities... By Design project includes a poster
showcase, international conference and festival, to be held in
Toronto, Canada, from October 20 - 24, 1997. One of the key
strategies for creating healthier communities is to design
environments that are supportive of health. In preparation for
these activities, Design Exchange is gathering ideas that show how
thoughtful design contributes to healthy communities. They are
looking for recently completed projects, works in progress or
proposed initiatives and ideas that show innovative ways in which
people have made their environment healthier. The project must
reflect healthy community initiatives in the following categories:
home, neighborhood, institution/workplace, municipality and region.
Deadline for entries is January 1, 1997. Entry fees applicable.
