Using the PLACE Method to Inform Decision Making
Please join MEASURE Evaluation tomorrow, February 27, 2013, at 9am EST for an hour-long webinar on using the Priorities for Local AIDS Control Efforts (PLACE) method (http://e2.ma/click/815bh/kjrlgl/wkckub) to inform decision making.
PLACE is a tool to improve the local AIDS prevention program response for key populations in districts or other sub-national areas where HIV transmission is high or increasing. PLACE is primarily designed for local program managers who want to know where to target resources to prevent new HIV infections. It can also be used at the national level to inform M&E indicators for key populations. Within each PLACE study area, PLACE systematically maps risk venues, describes the characteristics and risk behaviors of persons attending the venues, and uses the information to develop district-level action plans to improve outreach education, venue-based HIV/STI testing, and condom distribution.
Dr. Sharon Weir, a Senior Scientist with MEASURE Evaluation, and Professor Peter Figueroa with the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, will describe the PLACE method and discuss how it has been used for HIV/STI surveillance, behavioral surveillance, program monitoring, size estimation of most-at-risk populations and for program planning.

Examples from PLACE assessment illustrating use of data to improve local and national HIV program planning
Individuals new to the PLACE method and those who have experience with the method are enthusiastically invited to participate.
