A quick note about the Ottoman case:
19th-century Ottoman economists always emphasized that the "new" 
(post-Smithian) understanding of wealth is about how the "people" 
(without much of class conflicts in mind) of a country collectively and 
continuously produce (material things) through the division of 
productive labor, as opposed to the "old" understanding which emphasized 
the opulence at the higher strata of society and the precious metals 
stocked in state coffers.
Some of these economists even defined "wealth" (as the ultimate 
objective) in this respect as the "standard of living" of the ordinary 
people, while the majority had a notion of a "wealthy country" being an 
advanced industrial economy--taking the French and British cases as models.
So, considering that the Ottomans (like the Swedish) read Smith in 
French, it seems to me that the term "richesse" did not lead to much 
confusion in this regard.

Each of them seem totally inadequate to making sense of what Smith had in mind or what the book is about. This seems to me more than just a curiosity.
