ANN: LIBRARY COMPANY OF PHILADELPHIA FELLOWSHIP AWARDS

Program in Early American Economy and Society
Fellowships for 2001-2002

The Library Company of Philadelphia's Program in Early American Economy and Society
invites applications for its three types of fellowship awards
to be granted for research and scholarship during 2001-2002, as
follows:

--- Four one-month fellowships that carry stipends of ,600 each and are
tenable from June 2001 to May 2002, available to scholars at all levels of
research.

--- One dissertation-level fellowship, tenable for nine consecutive months
from September 1, 2001 to May 31, 2002, and carrying a stipend of 5,000.

--- One advanced research fellowship, also for nine consecutive months from September 1,
2001 to May 31, 2002, and carrying a stipend of 0,000.

These fellowships are designed to promote scholarship in early
American economy and society, broadly defined, from its colonial
beginnings to roughly the 1850s. Some of the possible subjects of
investigation include the history of commerce, finance, technology,
manufacturing, agriculture, internal improvements, and political
economy. Applicants for both short-term and long-term fellowships may
submit proposals based not only on the extensive printed collections
at the Library Company, but also on the printed and manuscript
materials of other institutions nearby. Fellows will also have the
opportunity to participate in the growing intellectual life of the
Program in Early American Economy and Society and contribute to the
Library Company's other scholarly activities. Please visit our web
site for a fuller schedule of these events: www.librarycompany.org

All applicants should submit four copies each of a c.v. and a 2-4
page description of the proposed research. One-month fellowship
applicants also need to send 1 letter of recommendation. Long-term
fellowship applicants need to supply 2 letters of recommendation and
a relevant writing sample of about 25 pages.

Please send all materials to: Program in Early American Economy and
Society, The Library Company of Philadelphia, 1314 Locust Street,
Philadelphia, PA 19107. Application deadline is March 1, 2001. Reply
date is April 15, 2001.
