For Twainians who may be interested in presenting at a conference next fall
-- or for other humor scholars -- here's a Call for Papers for the American
Humor Session of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Assn.

CALL FOR PAPERS

American Humor Session
Rocky Mountain Modern Language Assn. Conference
Vancouver, B.C., Canada
October 11-13, 2001

PRESENTERS WANTED!  If you're interested in presenting a paper at the
American Humor Session of the RMMLA, please send a 300-word abstract (hard
copy) to:

DEADLINE:  March 1, 2001.  You'll be notified of your status by March 15.

TOPICS:  Papers on any aspect of American humor will be welcome, including
analysis and discussion of:
        --a particular humorous writer or performer,
        --different techniques of humor (satire, irony, exaggeration, etc.),

        --different types of humor (literary, TV sit coms, films, comic
strips, regional humor,
                ethnic/racial humor, etc.),
        --purposes of humor (social criticism, selling products, enforcing
the status quo,
                storytelling, etc.),
        --teaching an American humor class or how humor can enhance other
classroom teaching and
                learning experiences (methods, materials, challenges, etc.),
or
        --other relevant aspects missed in this list.
You should anticipate papers of 15-20 minutes in length.
