FOLKS:

First, my thanks for the many excellent responses to my previous query.
(Sometimes I wonder if I rely on the good graces of the folks on this LIST
too much.)

I am getting ready to select illustrations for a book project and I am
trying to figure out free sources, since the publisher will not pay for the
rights to my illustrations. Any advice on where to look? I know about
Library of Congress. And I would love some pictures that are relatively
unknown -- not the standard ones that show up all the time. Any good ideas
for images that are in the public domain?

PS -- I am not against paying a little for rights, but some rights are more
expensive than others.
