First, thanks to the expertise and generosity of the Forum members, I have
an impressive list of books by other authors either re-telling Twain's
stories, or featuring Twain himself as a character. I'll paste the list at
the end of this e-mail, for those who are interested. And if you don't see
something that should be on it, could you please let me know? (As a side
note, the one book on the list that 3 or 4 people specifically singled out
as their favorite is the one by Carkeet, which I haven't read yet but will
soon.)
Second, I am back in my beggar's clothes to ask for help with a related
topic. In response to my query about books, two good folks -- Michael
MacBride and Terry Oggel -- mentioned TV shows that feature appearances by
"Mark Twain" (Star Trek, the Next Generation and Touched by an Angel). I
also know about an episode of the Simpsons with Tom and Huck in it, but
would love to learn about other TV moments that reference Twain or his
characters/works. I don't mean made-for-TV versions of Huck Finn, Roughing
It, etc -- but episodes from regular TV shows that make some use of
"Twain." I promise to share the results this time too. And would like to
promise that I won't be back in another couple weeks with yet another favor
to ask -- but that would be a stretcher.
Thanks! and here's the list of books, Steve Railton
