Dear Dave,
        In _Mark Twain Speaking_ there's an anecdote that he often used
in his own speeches..I don't remeber where he gave it, but it relates the
story of Twain as a child.  He steals a watermelon, cracks it open and
finds out it isn't ripe, then takes it back to the farmer and complains
about the merchandise.  The farmer gives him another watermelon.  It may
not be his most famous or particularly edifying, but I laugh every time I
read it.
