Same debate now raging on Joyce listserve--a couple moralists ending their
subscriptions because of references to masturbation, a flurry of discursive
dead cats tossed in their general direction as they exit right, then
objections to the humorists for lowering the tone, etc. =20

I think there's anxiety among members about listserves degenerating into
chat lines or flirtsites.  So many flatheads on internet, so much empty
chatter.  I doubt, however, that the Mark Twain Forum need worry about being
crashed by cyberpunks who will pluck out pedantic beards and blow them in
pedantic faces.  Lots more exciting nodes out there.
