                      CALL FOR PAPERS

                Twentieth Annual Conference

                 NORTHEAST AMERICAN SOCIETY
                            for
                 EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY STUDIES

                 College of the Holy Cross
                  Worcester, Massachusetts

                   September 26-29, 1996

The Program Committee for the Twentieth Annual Conference of the
Northeast American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies seeks
panels and papers from all disciplines addressing the theme, "READING
THE LANGUAGES OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY," including vocabulary, para-
digmatic structures, private/public discourse, concepts of commonwealth,
and cultural connections.

Scholars from the fields of history, literature, music, philosophy,
politics, the sciences, and the visual arts are invited to submit
proposals for complete panels or individual papers. Since individual
papers are sometimes difficult to fit into panels, potential panelists
are encouraged to use the H-Net to identify others who might join in
sponsoring a complete panel.

Panel proposals and abstracts (up to 500 words) should be sent to one
of the conference chairs no later than December 1, 1995:

Professor Maurice A. Geracht ([log in to unmask])
