Welcome HESers to the new site!!

By now, you should have received a welcome letter from me about the move
from Babson College to the Economic History Services site.

The following information about posting messages to HES and common list
commands is provided from the Information file that you can obtain by
sending the command "info HES" to [log in to unmask]

Ross
editor, HES

GUIDELINES FOR POSTINGS:
The following are subscriber guidelines for all lists sponsored by The
Cliometric Society:

1. Subscribers are encouraged to post questions, comments, or their
own announcements about economic history to the list at any time.
A short introduction of who you are and what you are working on
would be appropriate for your first posting.

2. Responses to a posting may be sent to the list or directly to the
individual who posted the message. In most cases, the responses will
be of interest to other subscribers, and should be sent to the list.
Purely personal responses, however, should be sent by regular email
to the individual instead of posted to the list.

3. Please avoid using the list for the agendas of others. The
editor's job is to locate and post announcements from outside
sources that are germane to the list. If you are asked to forward an
announcement, but are not sure if it is appropriate for HES,
please forward it to the editor.

HOW TO POST TO THE LIST:
A posting to the list is simply an email message from you. The
difference is that more than one person receives your message,
without your having to specify each and every recipient - the list
does this for you. Just compose your posting like you would any
email message, and send it to:

DIGEST MODE ON THE LIST:
You may find it a nuisance to have postings arriving at random times
throughout the day. You can control your incoming messages by
setting "digest" mode, which tells the list to send your messages in
batches, instead of individually at the time they are posted. Simply
send the following command to [log in to unmask]

set HES mail digest

POSTPONING MAIL FROM THE LIST
You may want to stop stop receiving postings temporarily, such as
for a few weeks while you are on vacation. You can have list postings
stopped without having to unsubscribe from the list and resubscribe
when you return. Send the one-line message to [log in to unmask]

set HES mail postpone

CANCELLING DIGEST AND POSTPONE COMMANDS
When you want to resume receiving list postings, or if you want to
stop receiving postings in a digest, send the one-line message to
[log in to unmask]

set HES mail ack

UNSUBSCRIBING FROM THE LIST:
If you wish to remove yourself from the list due to a change of email
address or moving, withdrawing from the list is a straight-forward
procedure. Just send this message to [log in to unmask]

unsubscribe HES

OTHER CLIOMETRIC SOCIETY LISTS:
The Cliometric Society offers a growing number of lists devoted to
specific topics in economic history. For more information about these
