Rob Browning, of the MTP, published a short piece some years ago on this
saying, concluding that probably MT didn't say it--no one knows for sure.
But Joe Mc's formulation is essentially the same as Browning's
(Bancroftiana, 1981), except that Browning says the summer was '79 while
the letter was 1880.
