ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN
Administrative (Union) Position
(CONTRACT 6 MONTHS with possibility of renewal)

Department:  United Church of Canada Archives/Victoria University
Archives

Position status:  Six-month contract with a possibility of renewal

Duties:  Assists in the processing of archival holdings by entering
data for finding aids, indexes and labels for archival holdings;
preparing lists of file titles, names, etc.; preparing materials for
archival storage.

Performs public service duties, including reception and telephones,
orientation of researchers, reference back up, processing orders for
inter-library loans and for copies of photographs and publications.

Performs some general office support duties, including filing,
maintaining office forms, ordering supplies, photocopying, etc.

Qualifications: High school graduation plus an Archival Technician
diploma from an accredited community college programme.  Equivalent
cominations of education and experince may be considered.

Basic knowledge of archival principles and practices; good oral and
written communication skills; ability to learn procedures and apply
them to task assigned; ability to work quickly and accurately with
minimum daily supervision; willingness to accept direction;
willingness to perform work that may occasionally be tedious; pleasant
manner in dealing with researchers.

Keyboarding and familiarity with WORD software; ability to use
equipment in the archives; knowledge of DB-TEXTWORKS and other
application software desirable; knowledge of HTML desireable.

Experience:     1-2 years related work experience in an archives
Salary:         $27,014-31,781-36,548 (prorated)

Starting date:  1999 October 4
