Dear colleagues,

You are invited to Laurier Archives and Special Collections' Annual Spring Lecture: ANTARCTICA: Passion and Obsession

When: Thursday, May 25 at 3:00pm ET

Pat and Rosemarie Keough share insights into their celebrated fine-press artists' book ANTARCTICA. Discussion encompasses the Keoughs' Antarctic exploration, imagery, design considerations, state-of-the-art lithography technology, centuries-old hand binding skills, and archival vegetable leather tannage.

Pat and Rosemarie Keough are internationally acclaimed photographers, authors and private-press publishers. Their handcrafted tome ANTARCTICA is described as "a work of art, a monument, the apogee of grandeur" (America's The Today Show); and declared an heirloom akin to a Patek Philippe watch (The Economist). The Keoughs have received many prestigious honours including World's Best Nature Photographers, World's Best Photography Book, and World's Best Printing and Outstanding Bookarts. Institutions which have acquired the Keoughs' ANTARCTICA include the Royal Society in Britain, Houston Museum of Art, The Grolier Club New York, Harvard, Princeton, and Berkeley universities in the USA, and Wilfrid Laurier University, Queens and UBC in Canada. A complete archive of the Keoughs' career in the bookarts is maintained by Yale University Arts Library, with materials dating to a booklet made by Rosemarie when in kindergarten.

Pat and Rosemarie have created eight art books exclusively portraying their imagery and mounted numerous exhibitions of their photos in Europe and North America. They often present lectures around the world, most recently in Lisbon for Earth Day celebrations at the Portuguese National Natural History and Sciences Museum. The Keoughs are Fellows and Medalists of The Explorers Club, medalists of Britain's Royal Geographical Society, and Fellows of The Canadian Geographical Society.

This free online lecture is hosted by Laurier Archives and Special Collections. Please note that Laurier's Zoom license requires you to sign in to Zoom prior to joining the webinar.
