Please pass along the following two positions to those who might be
interested in either part-time summer employment or public health nursing
opportunities in heart health.

1.  Tobacco Use Prevention Promoter (17.5 hours per week - temporary)
Assisting with the development, implementation, evaluation, project
management of tobacco use prevention activities and direct client service
through answering our Tobacco Hotline.  Working on topics such as
second-hand smoke in the home, smoking cessation, smoking in public places
bylaw implementation, and orienting health professionals.  Maintaining files
and reference materials.  This temporary part-time position is available
from approximately the end of April for up to 20 weeks.  Requires a
baccalaureate degree in health sciences or equivalent and experience in
health promotion, program planning, implementation and evaluation.
Remuneration based on $25.20 per hour.  [Position pending approval for
external hiring.]  Resumes accepted until April 18, 2001.

2.  Public Health Nurse - Child/Youth Coordinator
The Coordinator will work with the Heart Health Hamilton-Wentworth
Child/Youth Work Group and Social and Public Health Services (SPHS)
Department staff to achieve the objectives of the heart health program and
the Chronic Disease Prevention standards.  The position entails community
mobilization, coordination, program and resource development, planning,
evaluation and applied research responsibilities.

A baccalaureate degree in B.Sc.N. with two years experience in health
promotion, community mobilization, program planning, implementation and
evaluation.  A Master's degree in health promotion, behavioural science or a
related discipline would also be beneficial.

Sound knowledge of health promotion, heart health promotion, health and
behaviour change theory, and health policy development is required.
Necessary skills include: community needs assessment, program planning,
development and evaluation, communication (oral, written and mass media),
group facilitation, community mobilization, public speaking, resource
development, project management, computer word processing and Internet, and
ability to work as a team member.
