Dear Bob

I would add some information about the obituary of Alfred Marshall by Japanese nationals. I read a paper lightly touched on obituaries of Marshall at THETS 2018 but have not published it yet.

Juichi Soyeda, whom Masazumi Wakatabe mentioned, sent a short letter in memory of Marshall to the EJ (March 1925 issue, pp.163-64). https://www.jstor.org/stable/2222611

Soyeda also took notice of the publishment of Marshall's obituary by him and the special meeting in memory of Marshall by the Economic Research Association (Keizaigaku Kokyukai). The former, written in Japanese, appeared in the "Kokka Gakkai Zasshi" (the Journal of the Association of Political and Social Sciences) of the Tokyo Imperial University (Vol.39, No.1, pp.54-72) as "Marshall-sensei Shouden" (A Short Biography of Prof. Marshall). The latter was held on 22nd January 1925, according to Soyeda's article in the "Kokka Gakkai Zasshi" (Vol.39, No.2, p.160-61).

The Kansai University Bulletin (Senriyama Gakuho) also published the obituary of Marshall by Tsunao Miyajima in September 1924.

The Bulletin carried, in 1925, a Japanese translation (by Shozo Toda) of the obituary by Keynes in the EJ.

Furthermore, in June and September 1926 issue, it also carried a Japanese translation (by Morisato Shimomura) of the obituary of Edgeworth by Keynes in the EJ.

Best regards,
Tomoyuki

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

All the best
