SLC to Francis Wilson, October 1908, written
prior to Wilson's reply to SLC 13 October 1908
(CU-Mark).

    File says:  The advertising blurb in the
    publishing house list at the back of L. M.
    Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables
    (Boston:  L. C. Page & Company, 1908)
    quotes MT as writing in a letter to Francis
    Wilson:  "In 'Anne of Green Gables' you
    will find the dearest and most moving and
    delightful child since the immortal Alice."

    Also in file, a page from In The Bookman,
    Vol. 28, No. 4, Dec. 1908, in "The
    Bookman Advertiser", an add for Anne of
    Green Gables which has the same quote.

    Baker #54, 6-7, Nov. 1940:

        SLC to Francis Wilson, 1 Nov 1893
        Catalog says inscription reads:
        "Salutation and Best Wishes to
        Francis Wilson from Mark Twain.
        New York, Nov. 1, 1893."  With
        Mr. Wilson's book-plate and
        autograph.  (Book inscribed:
        Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's
        Comrade). First Edition.
        Illustrated by E. W. Kemble.
        Square 8vo, original cloth, (very
        slightly worn). N.Y., 1885).

        SLC to Francis Wilson, 15 Nov
        1893:  Catalog says inscription
        reads: "To Francis Wilson with
        kind regards of Mark Twain.  New
        York.  Nov. 15, '93"  (Book
        inscribed: Roughing It.  First
        Edition, First Issue, Illustrated, 8vo,
        original sheep, rebacked, broken.
        Hartford, 1872).

        SLC to Francis Wilson, 6 Feb 1894:
        Catalog says inscription reads:
        "Unto Francis Wilson, my fellow-
        Player and neighbor in the next
        room, greeting and salutation!  and
        therewithal prosperity and peace,
        and the continuance of our
        friendship until the end.  Amen
        Mark Twain.  The Players. Feb. 6,
        1894.  (Book inscribed: The
        Innocents Abroad.  Illustrated. 8vo,
        cloth, hinges cracked, slight cover
        defects.  Hartford, 1870).
