Besides the motivation of money that inspired most of his investments, his
past experience as a typesetter probably made him appreciate what the
machine did. When it wasn't breaking down and jamming up it did work. The
fact that it had thousands of moving parts probably made it more attractive
to Twain than if it had just hundreds.
