The Sacramento Daily Union's Special Correspondent in Carson City in 1861-62 was Andrew J. Marsh, who signed all his letters "Tule". I do not know if Tule lived at Mrs. Murphy's boarding house, but Sam and Marsh were friends. In the late 1960s and early70s the letters, all typewriter copied from microfilm in those pre-Internet days, were annotated and published in a boxed pair of books, one about the first Territorial Legislative Session; the second about the first State Constitutional Convention. Because that Constitution was not adopted, the minutes were never printed and the book becomes the record of it. They were researched and published by the Nevada Legislative Counsel in the 1970s. In 1862 Sam, in the mining camp of Aurora, then thought to be in California, considered applying as the town's correspondent in for the Union, then the most important paper in California, but did not follow through.
