As a footnote to this, anyone interested in TWAIN as a literary critic
should read Sydney Krause's "Mark Twain as Critic" (John Hopkins Press
1967). I believe it is the only book devoted to the subject and it is
quite well done. In a section on his early theatre criticism, Krause
discusses how Twain, in a review, would parody theatre critics of the time
-- very funny stuff.
