Tell me, Have you already worked your way through 1868?  Do you find the
lack of information about some of the time during his trip to California
unusual?
Good luck on  your massive undertaking.  I once dedicated a full year to
only reading Mark Twain, and I didn't even get through everything.  (I was
not, however, reading day and night.)
