Subject: RE: SCMLA 2016 and Special Session on Twain

I offered to present a full-length original play about Twain (or any part
thereof) to the recent SAMLA conference in Durham. Apparently, there wasn't
enough interest for them to feel justified in bending their presentation
time limits.

The offer's still good to anyone interested.

Subject: SCMLA 2016 and Special Session on Twain

Forum Members:

Recently I presented a paper on Mark Twain (along with my husband) at the S=
CMLA Annual Conference in Nashville. It was the paper I was originally sup=
posed to present at the conference in Hannibal in July; however, I broke my=
pelvis and had to cancel.

As I looked over the program and read all the paper titles that were being =
presented, I was shocked that our paper was the only one on Twain. That wi=
ll be different next year. I (and my husband Dr. Delwin Richey - who teach=
es in our university's Communication Studies Dept.) are sponsoring a Specia=
l Session panel on Mark Twain: The Gilded Age Exposed. The theme for the 2=
016 SCMLA conference is "The Spectacular City: Glamour, Decadence and Celeb=
rity in Literature and Culture," so because Mark Twain coined the term The =
Gilded Age, we thought papers on any of his works about any of these aspect=
s of the theme would fit right in.

The call for papers is not "official," but I wanted all of Twain Forum memb=
ers to consider submitting an abstract. The official call for papers will =
be after the first of the year and the conference is not until November 201=
6 in Dallas, Texas.

Thanks for considering this and I look forward to getting abstracts......on=
ce the official call goes out.
