A question from a correspondent in conjunction with a New
Yorker Magazine article --

Are there any known photos in existence of Twain and Ulysses
Grant together?

Although Twain's news reports from Washington in 1868 have
numerous references to Grant, it seems the most likely
place and time such a photo of the two together might have been
taken would have been in Chicago in 1879 or Hartford in the early
1880's.

Research through numerous Twain reference books and with Grant
biographers have not uncovered such a photo at this time.

Thanks for any info.
