   It's hard to compete in this one, because there are so many bad
adaptations of Tom Sawyer, but the folks at the Nashville Network won my
prize last night with a "Tom Sawyer" that was animated, with the leads being
played by cute, furry critters. After about 5 minutes of this syrupy mess, I
had to go away, because my blood sugar levels were at a crisis point. Even
from Long Island, I could feel seismic activity coming from upstate in
Elmira, as Twain was spinning in his grave.
