Looking forward to seeing all who are making the trip to the quadrennial
conference later this week. Many thanks to this year's organizers, Shelley
Fisher Fishkin and Tracy Wuster, as well as the whole organizing committee,
and Joe Lemak, who I can report is working tirelessly on the ground to get
everything ready for your arrival.

While there will undoubtedly be some minor last minute changes (travel
conditions are tough, after all), a digital version of the finalized
schedule is online. We will keep links to conference information in several
prominent places on our homepage, but you can always go directly to

The program, campus map, and other pertinent information, including any
updates, will appear there first!

Also, as many of you get ready to travel, we have oodles of content to
prime your pump for three days of Twainia, starting with a new series of *The
American Vandal Podcast. *Guest-hosted by Mika Turim-Nygren, it is a deep
dive into Kerry Driscoll's recent book, *Mark Twain Among The Indians*,
with John Bird, Susan K. Harris, Ann Ryan, and Kerry herself, all of whom
will be in Elmira! Subscribe and download from your favorite podcast
provider, or grab the premiere episode from

If you prefer to read on the plane, my series on "The Twain Doctrine"
continues with an exploration of Hal Holbrook's brief association with the
US state propaganda. Twain scholarship doesn't usually get to traffic in
CIA memos, congressional hearings, and Cold War conspiracy theory, but this
does:

Finally, for you viewing pleasure, might I recommend any of the three
lectures from our Summer Park Church Series, or a prize-winning student
documentary, "To The Country Sitting In Darkness," or this past week's
episode of the #VelshiBannedBookClub on MSNBC, featuring yours truly trying
to explain *Huck Finn *in six minutes. All are available on our (or
MSNBC's) YouTube channel.

Meet you in Elmira!
