Good question.  I don't know the answer, but my speculation is that Rogers
had reached enough notoriety during the last years of Clemens' life to be
known by him.  I doubt if they ever met, but I don't know.  Had Clemens
lived
another ten years in reasonably good health, they probably would have become
personal friends.
