David,  Thanks for the welcome.  That is an interesting question from 
you; but, no, I haven't seen any references to surfing.  It's an amusing 
picture to think about.
My particular interest has become the life of Jean Clemens which I find 
intriguing and mistakenly reported by so many Twain biographers.
