For those teaching this excellent story, you might check out the Great
Amwell prod. video of "The private History of A Campaing That Failed."
After and adaptation of the title story, a short dramatization of "The War
Prayer" was added and is nicely done.  I don't think I'd bother showing a
class the whole video but the five minute version of "The War Prayer" might
well help spark discussion.

For other information, you might read my "Mark Twain and Tom Paine: 'Common
Sense' as Source for 'The War prayer'" in a 1989 issue of CCTE Studies, the
details of publication slip my mind.  In it, I compare passages
from Paine and 1st Samuel in the Bible to the structure of the "War Prayer"
which might also add to classroom discussion.
