In response to Robert Dagnall--
        I can't claim (by any means) to have read everything Twain wrote.
But
in my editorial work on SATIRE OR EVASION? I read what a number of
commentators
had to say on the subject, and so far as I know, no one has found that Twain
ever used the phrase "Nigger Jim."  Further, my impression of his relation
to
his work is that he would not have done so.
