Apologizing all over the place, I cannot believe I substituted Salmon P. Chase's name and cabinet position for Edward Bates, Attorney General in Lincoln's cabinet. I had been working what Chase, who sponsored Chief Justice Turner (of Josh's Fourth of July column) when I ran across the Bates Diary. It was Bates, of course, who mentored Orion. I am so embarrassed. I sent that, then went to Reno and returning home discovered what I had written.
Now if only I could sent matter more easily read.
