On April 21-23, Carson City Nevada is holding an inaugural Mark Twain Days program. It was in Carson City in January 1863 that Virginia City Territorial Enterprise reporter Sam Clemens first signed his writing with the pen name "Mark Twain" to close a long "letter" written in Carson City about a large party in that city. The letter introduced Mark Twain to the world. Events during the April weekend include a costumed "BowTie Ball;" a VIP train ride on the Virginia & Truckee (V&T) Railway; musical performances; "Walk in Sam's Shoes" historical walks in town; the minting of Mark Twain special medallions using the historic coin stamp that minted "CC" Silver Dollars, a farmer's market style authors' book and memorabilia sale event, special events for children, and more. For details see "Mark Twain Days Visit Carson City" on the Internet.
