Thanks for all your help. The aspiz article was the one I was thinking of.
Yesterday I couldn't find the citation, but I thought it was in American
Literature, so I ploughed through a couple of decades of the periodical
without finding it (of course). I found another Dr. Newton who was a real
doctor and I was wondering if there had been a mistake. I can't find
anything on this so called famous Dr. James Rogers Newton, but I'll keep
trying. Thanks again
