Greetings -- I thought members of the Forum might be interested in the fact
that the Hartford Courant from 1764 to 1922 is now available in a searchable
database via ProQuest. Unfortunately, at the moment this can be accessed
easily only in Connecticut, so far as I can determine, but various great
minds are researching how it could be made more generally available.

>Early next week iCONN users will be able to begin searching the
>Historical Hartford Courant. State Librarian Kendall Wiggin cited the
>financial commitment by academic, public and school libraries across the
>state as well as some major private foundation support for making this
>possible. "This is truly an exciting and major addition to the suite of
>iCONN resources and I am grateful to all those who have pledged their
>support," said Wiggin. Fundraising efforts for the Hartford Courant
>Digitization Project moved close enough to the goal that the State
>Library was able to reach an agreement with ProQuest to proceed with the
>project. The State Library is just $57,000 shy of its goal and Wiggin
>is confident it can be reached.
